About
The mission of k12linux is to provide a space for advocacy, collaboration and learning about all aspects of open source software in education. Public, Private, Charter and Home Schools.
k12linux.org has been around for quite some time as an umbrella site that also included k12ltsp.org and k12os.org. Eric Harrison and Paul Nelson maintain those sites and Eric also maintains the k12ltsp package.
I am Michael Williams and my day job is to act as the Technology Director for Haywood County Public Schools. I’ve been using open source software for quite some time both personally and professionally.
It was cool to be on the same page with Amazon, BP and Dream Works in the Red Hat Annual Report in 2002 , and to be quoted or mentioned in eSchool News in October 2000 , June 2001 , November 2001 and again in another article in that same issue.
I’ve also made several presentations at state conferences:
StarOffice and Thin Client’s
NCaetc - March 2000
OSS - Doing More with Less
NCaect - March 2002
NCET - March 2002
StarOffice
OSS - Still doing More with Less
NCaetc - March 2004
It’s been awhile since I’ve made the rounds but we still use linux and open source through out our district.
More to come!
